It comes every year. April Fools' Day: a day completely devoted to pranks and fun. But when do the fun and games cross the line?

<fb:share-button href="http://bobcatbanner.com/blog/2009/04/how-far-is-too-far-on-april-fools-day/" type="box_count"></fb:share-button>
It comes every year. April Fools’ Day: a day completely devoted to pranks and fun.

Jokes such as saran wrapping toilet seats, putting rubber bands around sink faucet sprayers, and telling little white lies are all fun until pranksters take the jokes a bit too far.

It happens every time; someone has a great idea for a prank on a gullible victim, and it gets way out of hand.

Sure, it may be funny to see all the people rushing to the prison gates thinking that their loved ones were going to be released; but that is really hurtful when they find out it was all just a big hoax. In Romania, April 1, 2000, a newspaper published that all prisoners were going to be released, and it just was an April Fools Day joke.

Now don’t get me wrong, I am a huge prankster — but I know when to stop and when the prank really isn’t something to joke about.

The main thing that everyone has to remember is not to do a prank on someone who isn’t a very good sport. Even the smallest prank can make them snap, and it could result in huge mess.

Also, doing a prank on just one person is easier than the whole town because there are more people that could end up believing the joke, like in Romania’s case.

Things like car accidents, crimes, and other extreme things shouldn’t be joked about no matter what. Seeing someone’s reaction when they are told that grandpa’s in the hospital could be entertaining, but this can easily be turned into a panic and someone rushing into the hospital for no reason at all. Not to mention that is something very serious that shouldn’t be joked about, even if it is April 1.

From experience, I know that the classic jokes are always the ones that work. Family and friends may be expecting you to do them but they will still keep everyone laughing.

So this April Fools Day don’t go with the big, over the top pranks, just keep them simple and funny so your day doesn’t turn out to be a total wreck!

Watch out all you Easter Bunny fans because visiting homes this year isn’t going to be the usual furry creature hopping around. Coming around will be something a little new and different.

For this year and many more years to come, the Easter Bunny will not be bringing baskets full of candy and gifts, kids will no longer be sitting on the Easter Bunny’s lap for photos, and most definitely there will not be the annual Easter egg hunt. Instead, there is going to be a new guy in town: he is the Easter Dentist.

“Watch out for me coming to homes because I will be there to deliver only the best presents anyone can receive,” said the Dentist.

Circulating his way from home to home, this new holiday dentist will be the one doing all the delivering. No more Easter baskets this year. Instead, everyone will be getting a bag full of fruit along with a new wicked-cool toothbrush and special edition fruity-jelly-bean-flavored toothpaste. Won’t kids just love opening a fresh bag of fruit and using their new toothbrushes every day, since they probably just had an apple and most likely brushed their teeth the day before?

“I’m so excited that there is going to be a Dentist coming to my house this year because I don’t really like rabbits hopping around my house; it’s a little creepy,” said junior Mackenzie Tomrell.

No longer will kids be hyped up on all the sugary candy, now they will have the sparkling smile that everyone loves. Many little children will boo-hoo and even cry about this new tradition, but as we all know, everyone wants a good smile and a healthy body. So instead of having the candy and toys, apples will be eaten and toothbrushes and toothpaste will be used.

“I am glad, so glad that kids will have clean teeth and they will start eating apples for Easter instead of the nasty sugary candy that they eat every year,” said parent Suzy Que.

This Easter is the start of something new. Remember, an apple a day keeps the doctor away and if anyone gets up really early in the morning and sees a Dentist with Easter bags, it’s okay. He is here to help.

A UFO landing on Miller Road has Flint citizens worried about whether the alien will make a good companion or try to conquer the Earth.

<fb:share-button href="http://bobcatbanner.com/blog/2009/04/ufo-frightens-flint-citizens/" type="box_count"></fb:share-button>
In the middle of the night on March 2, 2009, Flint citizen Kooly McGee saw what she thought to be an unidentified object (UFO).

“I’ve never been so fascinated and scared in my life,” said McGee.

You decide: Peaceful aliens or murderous frisbees?

The UFO was reported to have crash landed on Miller Road in front of Sonic. Numerous reports say that something fell out of the UFO and ran down into the sewer system.

Even stranger reports have been made saying that neon lights have appeared out of the woods every Wednesday night.

“I think the alien is trying to call home,” said universal life expert Fritz Shenanigan.

The question on many citizen’s minds is whether the alien is harmful or just a friendly guest. Previous alien sightings have usually ended in disaster with disappearances of numerous people. One report of a “friendly” guest was reported about an Extra Terrestrial (E.T.) who landed in California and ended up being a good companion to a little boy. The boy and E.T. became so close that their souls ended up coming together as one.

If the alien is a “friendly” he will most likely be welcomed to stay on Earth by countless fan bases that have reached across the Genesee County area.

“I would like to meet them and take them to the movies to see Men in Black,” said sophomore Jake Endicott.

This incident has some people wondering if the alien will attract other to come to Earth. An online poll taken by U.F.O.toEarth.com says that there is a 75 percent chance that more aliens will come to Earth. Nobody is quite sure of the intentions of our universal guest, but the curiosity of millions will want to know the answer soon.

Students were shocked to receive word that newly promoted High Inquisitor Hammond set a ban on all extracurricular activities that do not receive her personal permission to be allowed.

“You betcha I think these activities are bad for students,” Hammond said. “We need more good, old-fashioned learning time.”

Any team, club, or other extracurricular activity has to have a permission slip signed personally by Hammond.

Unlike previous policies of this type, however, Hammond has been given the authority to deny any activity, even going against other staff members.

Many students and even faculty, including football coach Joe Delaney, do not like this system.

“It’s stupid, and I hate it,” Delaney said.

Hammond thinks that students should look at the more positive side of this new policy. She thinks that this new rule will help make students more respectful to the staff.

“Oh, say it ain’t so, Joe,” Hammond said. “Without proper enforcement, kids these days will be running wild like those super-powered feral pigs I’ve been reading about.”

To help enforce Hammond’s new policies, a specially selected Inquisitorial Squad has been picked by Hammond herself. The current squad is still being chosen. It has been confirmed that members will have the authority to give out detentions to any students not following Hammond’s new rules.

Despite outrage by some students and staff members that this new policy may be too harsh, Hammond has no intention on removing it.

“I think that, given time, maybe kids will actually start showing respect again,” Hammond said.

In addition to the ban on extracurricular activities, Hammond has official created a ban on all unapproved newspapers, including the Bobcat Banner itself. The effect of the ban is currently being slated for the start of next year.

After that time, all students found with an issue of the Banner by either a teacher or by a member of the Inquisitorial Squad are to have the newspaper confiscated and be given a detention. Other staff members will not have the authority to revoke it.

“Oh, and wait until you hear my new detention policy,” Hammond added, with a wink.

The administration prepares to pilot a new school policy that would allow students to leave campus for lunch for the 2009-2010 school year.

<fb:share-button href="http://bobcatbanner.com/blog/2009/04/freedom-finally-yours-thanks-to-new-policy/" type="box_count"></fb:share-button>
<img class="size-full wp-image-338" title="person-eatting-a-burger-for-ericas-open-campus-article" src="http://bobcatbanner.com/files/2009/04/person-eatting-a-burger-for-ericas-open-campus-article.jpg" alt="Mac Attack: Students prepare to race off campus during lunch next school year.
It’s been the topic of debate for years, and now, finally, the administration has come to a verdict that will thrill Grand Blanc High School students; the 2009-2010 school year will be open campus!

After the success of the piloted cell-phone policy, yet another policy will be piloted in the following year. This comes to the surprise of many Grand Blanc High School staff members, who don’t necessarily share the same enthusiasm as their students.

“Quite truthfully I think this is the silliest thing I’ve ever heard of,” said English teacher Rhonda Gowdy. “It is unnecessary and dangerous to the students, and I think Grand Blanc made a mistake allowing such a policy to be put into place.”

Despite arguments against the policy, the administration agreed that having this policy in effect would teach students how to responsibly manage their time, and give each student a chance to show that they can handle the freedom which they will have in as few as four short years.

Junior Lauren Peters agrees. “We are going to be out there making our own decisions in two years anyways,” she said, “it’s better that we experience some freedom in high school rather then just experience it full-on in college.”

While you are all getting ready to celebrate this announcement, don’t pull out your party hats just yet. The consequences to not returning from your lunch period will be much more severe then simply skipping a class.

Though the final punishment has not yet been put into stone, administrators are considering assigning two days of out of school suspension for those who decide to not sign back into their fourth hour classes after exiting the building. Taking an overly long leisure hour would result in a loss of your privilege to leave campus for your lunch hour, or possibly the loss of credit for your fourth hour class.

Either way, in all honesty, students aren’t thinking bout the negatives of adopting this new policy, they are simply gloating that finally, after years of waiting, they will be allowed to go out and get a Big Mac and fries for lunch on a school day.

So all of you fast food lovers get ready — you can have whatever you want to eat seven days a week. Oh delicious snack-wraps and strawberry shakes you will be mine daily; all praise the new open-campus policy!
