Imagine this: Thanksgiving day, you walk into your grandparents’ house only to be overwhelmed by the wafting aromas of delicious turkey and mashed potatoes, seeing the slowly burning fire, and hearing the laughter of family you have waited to see for months. A perfect scene, right? Then, to top it all off, your uncle harmlessly flips on the football game only to reveal his favorite football team down by 27 with three minutes to go. While everyone is busy “going green.” the Volleycats have been “going pink.” Last year they raised $1,800. This year, their mission was not to claim the league title, but to raise at least $2,500 for breast cancer research during Breast Cancer Awareness month. They doubled their goal, raising $5,000 in the effort to fight breast cancer.

Although the girls’ swim and dive team endure difficult morning and afternoon practices and refrain from shaving their legs for Homecoming; it all paid off the weekend of Sep. 26 at Counties. Swimming to victory, the team beat Fenton, who got second place, by approximately 300 points.
“I don’t have a social life during swim season,” said junior Lauren Baywol who earned first in the 100 yard breast stroke, “When I’m not swimming or at school, I’m doing my homework or sleeping!”

Every year soccer players from all over Genesee County look forward to the Ryan Schlee Memorial 3v3 Soccer Tournament.
This year the tournament will be held on July 25 at the Rick Hartker Soccer Complex in Grand Blanc.
Ryan Schlee, a former Grand Blanc High School soccer player who died in 1994 in a car accident, was always committed to his team and community. His parents started this tournament in way to remember Ryan’s incredible soccer talent. Some of the proceeds to this tournament are donated to the Grand Blanc soccer team.

It was only eight years ago when Pistons GM Joe Dumars turned a sub .500 Pistons team into one that annually makes the Eastern Conference Finals. Hopefully, that will be the case once more after this disappointing season.

The girls’ varsity soccer program has a rich tradition, winning numerous district titles, regional championships, and even reaching the state finals in 2004.
One trophy however has been missing from their trophy case the last two seasons: the Big Nine Champions. The Lady Cats have succumbed to rival Powers the last two seasons placing second in the conference standings.

The historic Michigan vs. Ohio rivalry has been home to some of the biggest games and upsets in the nation’s history. The Michigan and Ohio sport teams have clashed for decades in multiple sporting events.
