Why fix something that’s not broken? This is question has been asked many times since the new Outtakes has been installed at West Campus.
The line’s face-lift includes a blue mosaic wall on the outside and all wood exterior. Aside from the actual Outtakes, several booths, a “study bar”, and new tables have all been installed.

Giving more than just time

A group of 110 brave students got the opportunity to get out of class to save lives on Friday, Jan. 22. How? These students, primarily juniors and seniors, were donors for the Red Cross blood drive.
At first some students were nervous about needles and the idea of giving blood.
“I’m really, really terrified right now,” said junior Meghan Bade. Luckily, Bade had some assistance as good friend and fellow donor, Nicole DeSousa, supported her with encouraging words and a hand to grip. DeSousa was “super-stoked” to give blood for the cause.

At the end of the marking period many kids rush to bring up their grade last minute; others don’t need it but would love to have those extra points. The Physics class gave out an extra credit assignment to create a mousetrap-powered car that could go 1 meter pulling 100 grams. The project was worth 5 percent of their grade, which is a big help to some people.
“It was a fun way to get the kids involved with a hands-on physics experiment, “said physics teacher Craig Trombly, “and make something …

With the chilly weather upon us once again, everyone is digging out their scarves, mittens, and hats to keep warm. A few students, however, are digging out the yarns and knitting needles and getting to work on making these winter luxuries for the less fortunate in Flint, in a new club called “Yarns of Love.”

Cindy Cromwell, community service liaison at the United Way of Genesee County, created the program.
“The program is about keeping people warm,” said Cromwell. “There are so many gracious people in the community who would love to …

With 197 young girls, cheerleaders, and supportive parents packed into the Tartoni Athletic Center early on a Saturday morning, the room was surprisingly organized. At the Bobkitten Cheer Clinic on Oct. 10, all of the GBHS cheerleaders joined together to teach girls from Kindergarten to 6th grade stunting, gymnastics, and multiple types of cheers.
“Our job is to teach girls cheers according to their age,” captain and senior Brittany Johnson explains. “We’re hoping they’ll take an interest in the sport.”

Achieving dreams was the main idea of the Freedom Writers’ assembly. Manuel V. Scott, an original freedom writer, shared his experiences and hardships with GBHS students and faculty. Students were asked how his story and past related to Grand Blanc’s.
“In a sense it does, in a sense it doesn’t,” said junior Cody Rodriguez, “Grand Blanc isn’t as rough but we still deal with the problems he had in school.”
Scott had a life full of tragedy. He lost friends and family because of gang violence. Los Angeles was rough when he …
