New outlook on Outtakes

18 February 2010 No Comments by Taylor Brown

Why fix something that’s not broken? This is question has been asked many times since the new Outtakes has been installed at West Campus.

The line’s face-lift includes a blue mosaic wall on the outside and all wood exterior. Aside from the actual Outtakes, several booths, a “study bar”, and new tables have all been installed.

With lunches at West generally being designated for freshmen, the majority of the school is excluded from the new addition.

“I think it would have been better to put the new line at East because there are so many more people eating lunch over there,” sophomore Ali Stapleton comments. This may not be true, however; because crowding is becoming a major problem with the new addition.

It seems like there are less tables than before the renovation and all of the students tend to try and congregate to the booths.

Even though freshman Kara Huber likes the new booths, she comments about how very few students are ever able to get one. She also talks about the crowding.

“I feel like there aren’t enough tables because we have a big group we usually sit with,” Huber said. “Everyone just migrated to where the new booths are.”

Regardless of all the complaints, It may seem like a new lunch line would earn more money for the school if it was at East. Junior Caitlin Smoot makes a different argument.

“They don’t have as many food options at West,” Smoot said. “So I think more students would buy from it.”

Hearing comments like, “it’s stupid”, “too crowded”, and “I don’t like anything about it”, it can be wondered why the district would choose to install it. The new area that was supposed to have more space and an overall more appealing look is only doing have its job and is a lot less functional than expected.
