Lookadoo Stirs Controversy
As students flooded into the gym on Tuesday Feb. 9, they expected to sit and listen to a motivational speaker for an hour as done multiple times in the past. However, as the lively assembly ended, raves and controversy filled the air.
The mastermind behind this hot new topic filling the school hallways is Justin Lookadoo, a relationship consultant who spoke about high school relationships and their flaws.
Starting off as a pre-med major at Tarleton State University in Texas, Lookadoo was hired at a prevention program. “It was then I realized the biggest issue these kids had, dealt with relationships 85-95 percent of the time,” said Lookadoo.
During his speech, he focused on the power of females, how they shouldn’t lower themselves, and how they should raise their expectations of guys.
His criticism of males sparked most of the controversy. However, Lookadoo admits he was the same as the guys he described, but that he changed over time.
“The biggest thing I hear from adults is that it doesn’t change,” said Lookadoo, “I wanted to show that it does.”
As a man who couldn’t read or write as a child, he has nine books out right now, three of which deal with relationships: Chatroom Chatter, Dateable, and 97.
Overall, what Lookadoo wanted students to get out of this assembly, was for girls to stop taking the easy route and boys to be respectful.
“I hope guys would start treating girls like the little princesses they thought they were,” said Lookadoo. “If the girls are confident and encouraged, they’re doing it right.”
