A Party To Remember
I am particularly fond of birthday celebrations. This past Friday was a birthday that I, and I’m assuming most of Grand Blanc, unfortunately missed. It was Ed Banger Record’s seventh birthday party, an event that took New York by storm and raged through the night.
Ed Banger is home to French electronic acts such as house music kings Justice, underground hip-hop rebel Uffie, SebastiAn, DJ Mehdi, the talented musician / artist So Me, and the founder, the near-god himself, Pedro Winter (who goes under the alias Busy P.)
I could go on a tangent about Winter for a good hour or so, but let’s just say he is single-handedly the most accomplished electronic music produced in the game today. Yes, he owns, produces, and performs on the label constantly. And yes, he managed Daft Punk for 12 years when they were in the prime time of their lives (pun intended). It was as much his birthday, as the label itself.
Winter was among the line-up for the party last Friday, along with Breakbot, DJ Mehdi, A-Trak, Uffie and Feadz, Busy P, and Justice. A-Trak was said to have stolen the show, and featured his The Yeah Yeah Yeah’s: “Heads Will Roll” recent remix.
Balloons filled the air as Busy P took the stage, and out wheeled a seven-layered cake, decorated according to the cowboy theme that dominated the night.
“It was truly amazing, but the cake wasn’t really that good,” said senior Teddy Kerk of Setauket High School, New York.
With Uffie’s debut album released this Valentine’s Day, she performed her newest single “MC’s Can Kiss” with her boyfriend Feadz djing for her. Busy P crossed labels and played some of The Bloody Beetroots’ “Warp 1.9.”
It was a night to remember, with guests attending from all over the world. Anyone lucky enough to go can surely tell.
