Gauntlet hallways

24 November 2009 One Comment by Emily Hines

Badge 014When your child comes home covered in bruises and scrapes and such, your mind automatically wanders to “Oh dear God my kid has been fighting in school.” But at Grand Blanc High School if your student is spotted looking rather beat up there is a good chance that it is not the after effects of a physical fight, but the side effects of just walking down the hallways trying to get from one class to the next.

Yes, Grand Blanc has a very overpopulated school system. It’s true. But in all honesty the amount of people in the hallways isn’t the main problem. The thing that causes people to get pushed around and bruised like ripe melons is the ridiculous and immature behavior of all the fools in the hallways.
It’s hard enough to walk in a hallway in which you have little to no elbow room whatsoever. However it doesn’t make it any easier that you have people fooling around, not paying attention to where they’re going or what they’re doing, publicly displaying their affection for one another, etc. The list goes on and on. If everyone just focused on getting to class (which is the whole purpose of being in school anyways) the hallways would already be a lot easier to walk through.

Another common occurrence you find in the hallways of GBHS is the oafs who think it is acceptable to just randomly stop and form social groups in the middle of the hallway. Awesome. Great. Gee, thanks I mean I wasn’t trying to walk there or anything. Oh no, you just go right ahead and block up the walkways so people can’t get through without clawing their way out. By all means, don’t let me interrupt your little clique just because I’m trying to get to those pesky little things we call classes. Yeah, good plan.

And if that isn’t bad enough, the unintelligent beings who decide to walk at a turtle-speed seem to be able to turn a good mood into a steamy one in a matter of nano seconds. Nobody appreciates having to come to a sudden stop because the idiot in front of them is apparently mimicking the behavior of a snail. Ok, you’re going to have to go to class anyways no matter how soon you get there, so you might as well pick up the pace. Seriously, either walk a little faster or get the dickens out of my way.

Needless to say, it is almost impossible to get through the hallways at a swift, steady pace and without having to make frequent abrupt stops. Unless of course you have a team of bodyguards around you to guide your way. Most of us do not. After all, why do you think we have to have nine minutes of passing time? Exactly. So if you’re in a hurry, you’re pretty much out of luck. Don’t count on getting anywhere on time in the hallways of Grand Blanc High School.
