Celebrity obsessions: a completion of our lives
Apparently, people have such dull lives that they have to obsess over people who we call “Celebrities.” People spend hours reading, youtubing, and twittering about their biggest idols, the young and the old of Hollywood. We obsess over every aspect of these people’s lives; we will stop at nothing, to know everything. Talk about an invasion of privacy.
Every week people get lost in celebrity tabloids, learning about what their favorite stars eat, wear, do in their free time, and even what they do behind closed doors. It may seem like utter craziness, but it’s true. What may seem even crazier is when people say that they love celebrities. Yes, that’s right, a love for a person that they have never met, and don’t even know. But it is perfectly alright because, that is what’s acceptable in society. You may ask why it is acceptable, but, no one really seems to know.
Whether practically stalking notable people in society is acceptable or not, it’s a whole other question of why people do it. We are just like those people we idolize. We just may not be as well known, talented, or accomplished, but we are all human beings after all. But, they are somehow so much more interesting. We may religiously sport a Starbucks drink every day, but when a celebrity does it, it’s an event, just because they are who they are. It’s very sad that our everyday lives are not enough for us, nope, we have to know about other people’s lives, not just our own, to be satisfied.
I guess it is just silly to think that lives could ever be complete without strange obsessions with celebrities. It would probably not be American, to be happy with just what we have, and what goes on in our own lives. We do things, like check Perez Hilton every day, just so we know certain details, like where Miley Cyrus ate lunch, or what brand her shoes are. We need the scoop on what Brittney Spears and Paris Hilton are doing in their social lives, because ours apparently could never compare. Our lives would certainly not be complete if we could not obsess and blog, and obsess some more over who Kanye is trashing on national television.
What can you do? It’s just the way people are, and the way people will always be. We will fall in love with people we have never met. We will obsess over the smallest details of celebrities’ lives, for they bring us joy in our own lives. So go ahead people, read all those tabloids, and don’t you dare stop twittering, because life would be incomplete without our obsessions and stalker like actions. Really, life would seem so insignificant with out the true loves of our lives, our celebrities.
