The “Freshmen Building” is no more
The West Campus is slowly becoming home to upperclassmen.

Freshmen aren't the only ones crossing campus.
The name the “freshmen campus” no longer fits. Students in every grade have to make the trek across campus, including seniors.
“It’s my senior year,” said Tiffanie Brown, “I would rather spend my time at East Campus with my friends.” Even though Brown is a senior, she has two classes at the so-called, “freshmen building.”
The walk from campus to campus is approximately 175 yards, which may not seem very far, unless you’re a student that has to make the walk multiple times a day. Senior Jessica Smith has to cross once for second hour then back over, and then back again for lunch. Some stud
ents have to go back and forth even more times.
“You have to cross even if it’s raining or snowing,” said junior Jake Kinzel. Crossing campus may be a healthy activity, but when the weather is bad, it turns into something one would do anything to avoid.
Crossing campus also creates problems with tardies. The hall sweeps are the administrations attempt to lower the amount of them, but according to Principal Jennifer Hammond, most of the kids caught in the hall sweeps are people who cross.
“Students don’t realize that they might not be going the right way,” said Dr. Hammond. She suggests that in some cases taking the upper path is quicker than taking the lower path; it just would depend where you were coming from.
When asked what other changes the administration could make to lessen the amount of tardies, sophomore Ashley Browne said, “[The crossers] should be let go early from class.” Another suggestion was that the
students who cross should be given a “window” of a few minutes so that they aren’t marked tardy.
The overall feeling on crossing campus is negative, and with the rumors of that the administration is trying to make it so that eventually everyone has to cross, isn’t making the feeling any better.
